Why must accidents be allowed to happen?

the Imminent Danger in Rides (here)

Been hearing of unfortunate incidents of attractions that
involved revolving movements. These attractions that
dotted the landscape had all been through the works for
a duration of time. Why must accidents be allowed to
happen when experience in their construction had been
tested all along. It could be human error in construction
and maintenance or likelihood of sabotage. Or perhaps
without any possibility of evil intentions it was just plain
tough luck. Those youngsters were most unfortunate to be
there then. And to think they were there bent on enjoying
themselves was smack against the parents' conscience
Undivided support for a high degree of safety awareness
and safety measures must always be emphasised.

Such rides known to be
cancelled due to bad weather
Winter has its 'faults'

Such fun for youngsters
Was it disaster waiting
to happen? Pity!

  1. If things are used how they aren't supposed to, accidents can occur. A lot comes back to human error though, one way or another.

  4. Nice picture to go with this haibun. I don't know why accidents happen, but getting dizzy on such rides is one reason I avoid them.

  5. Truth is we can't really disallow them.. It will happen if it is meant to happen

  6. Interesting philosophical haibun. Although the two closing poems do not really conform to haiku standards, they do raise questions. Because we do not live in a perfect world, because we as humans do stupid things, because we can"t control the weather. That"s my take on the why.

  7. Goodness yes, there should be safety measures taken into account.. we must do everything that we possibly can to prevent accidents from occurring. Excellent write, Hank ❤️

  8. Yes I freak out when my grandchildren ride, at the fairs, what looks like my children use to ride.

  9. Very well written and something we must keep in mind. The attractions aren't attractive to me anymore, but I have a child who rides.

  10. Support of safety precautions are most essential. Likely not frequent enough maintenance on such rides. Good topic, Hank.

  11. Accidents happen.
I would definitely be sick on that ride.

  12. We ride them, knowing full well that accidents happen. When they do, we are quick to point fingers, making someone to blame. But, we go on getting on those same rides, believing it can't, won't happen to us. And then if it does, the best we can hope is that someone else will point a finger. All of life is real, even the "attractions". And all of us are responsible. No life should be taken lightly,

  13. Can we really know? is there seatbelts and lifewests anywhere... or should we just accept that it happens?

  14. Never do I partake in a traveling fair. And I get sick and dizzy so it's not a hard sacrifice. Plus those rides are so expensive. Don't allow my kids on them - and don't want to know if they go on them now :P

  15. Accidents are so tragic. Don't suppose we'll ever be able to answer the why.

  16. Yes, it does seem that there has been a rash of incidents lately. I've never been a huge fan of these kind of rides at best. So sad for the innocent children and families affected.

  17. Accidents or carelessness? Sad butride owners should be held responsible.

  18. Unfortunately these accidents can be deadly--I hate these rides--it is like teasing death somehow

  19. I have always wondered if "accidents" are created by a higher power OR if they are simply our own foolish mistakes.
